The TradieCare Belt was the result of a final project for my User Centered Design Studio subject.
Myself and two others aimed our project at addressing the challenge of heavy lifting commonly encountered in various trades such as construction, landscaping, and hardware retail.
We conducted user research with industry professionals, as well as physiotherapists, highlighting the prevalence of back injuries among tradespeople and the importance of good posture and proper lifting techniques.
The team developed several initial prototypes, and landed on the concept of a tradesperson's lifting belt. The initial concept was developed through multiple iteration cycles, and a final prototype was created.
The belt can have significant impact in reducing exposure to back injuries over the course of a career, and improves work efficiency by reducing fatigue. Through supporting weaker individuals, the belt also increases accessibility for a career in the trades.
