This was the final project I completed during high school, and was submitted alongside a 70 page portfolio for my 2022 Design Innovation and Design Technology subjects.
My brief for this project was to design and create a seating solution for an office foyer space. In particular, an architectural studio. Many common seating solutions are large, bulky, featureless in their design, impacting on the space they occupy. Many are also costly and impractical for larger spaces and those with high capacity demands.
The Penkki bench was the result of this project. An elegant, affordable, sustainable, durable seating solution which aims to fill the void in the market between higher-priced and low quality solutions.
This project saw me develop my skills in CAD, woodworking, metalworking, CNC manufacturing and was my first exposure to communicating with industry professionals for externally manufactured parts.
